Company history
Safeaero
i Trelleborg AB, Sweden was founded in 1997, when the company bought
production and marketing rights for the Moelv Deicers, (MDI 412 and
MDI213) from the company Hägglunds Moelv in Norway after the
company decided to concentrate on their core defense business. The
production of these Deicers was then relocated to Trelleborg, a town
located in southern Sweden.
Hägglunds
Moelv developed the first one-man operated deicer MDI412 in a close
cooperation with SAS. This model which was introduced in 1988, was
4-wheel driven and had a working height of 12m. This unit could also
be used as a push back tractor.
In
1990, Hagglunds Moelv developed the second model the MDI213, which
was two-wheel driven and had an operating height of 13m. All
succeeding models were produced according to this concept, i.e. the
controls for driving and steering are car like, which means a
regular steering wheel, brake and accelerator pedal are used during
transport as well as for operational driving.
Since
the introduction of the first model, continuous improvements have
been made through product development, for example the proportional
mixing system was introduced to the market in 1990. Since then, a
forced air system, new nozzle and nozzle control system, as well as
an anti-collision system have also been introduced to the market.
Model
SDI 218 was introduced in 2003 with a maximum working height of 18
meters.
In
2000, Curt Herrström of Herrströms Mekaniska Verkstad AB and
Karsten Werntoft took ownership of Safeaero i Trelleborg AB. Today,
the company's share capital is 1 million Swedish crowns. The two
companies; Safeaero i Trelleborg AB and Herrströms Mekaniska AB
employe approximately 65 people.
Safeaero
AS in Norway is a wholly owned subsidiary of Safeaero i Trelleborg
AB which was founded in 1997 with responsibility for customer
service worldwide. In 2002, an office was opened in Switzerland to
support Sales and Product Development efforts in Central &
